Visions for Greater Human Flourishing serves as a vessel to project my passion for our human family in its strength, in its frailty, in its perfections, and in its imperfections. My desire is to advance Greater Human Flourishing as best I can. Please read on.

Grey

We don’t look much like our earliest ancestors, say from a million years ago. Although they walked upright and were anatomically the same as we are today, they were generally shorter with long legs and short arms and covered with hair. Their faces would have looked distinctly different from a modern human’s. They had low, sloping foreheads, thick ridges of bone above their eyes, a broad nose, and a powerful jaw. Their chins would have been small or nearly absent. Their skulls were longer and lower than ours. If you happened to run into one of them today, you’d experience a mixture of shock, fascination, discomfort, and disbelief, or perhaps sheer terror depending on when and where you made their acquaintance–like in a dark alley.

And if they happened to run into you in their environment a million years ago, they’d be equally shocked, fascinated, uncomfortable, and in disbelief.

Which brings me to Grey (double entendre intended).

Although I’m not a UFO guy per se, I find it difficult, if not absurd, and wholly arrogant to believe that we are alone in a Universe that contains trillions, yes trillions, of habitable planets with some 300 million alone in our Milky Way Galaxy. However, the jury is still out on whether or not inhabitants of those worlds are visiting our planet Earth, a world that doesn’t rate a dust mote relative to the size and scale or our galaxy and smaller still in the scope of the Universe. For all intents and purposes, we, all 8.3 billion of us, are as invisible as sub-atomic particles.

It’s equally difficult to out-of-hand dismiss extraterrestrial encounters when considering that reports of objects in the sky that are fundamentally "unidentified" go back thousands of years, virtually as far back as recorded human history itself. Renowned Roman chroniclers like Livy, Pliny the Elder, and Plutarch meticulously logged strange aerial phenomena. In 218 BCE, Livy recorded reports of "phantom ships" gleaming in the sky over Rome. In 76 BCE, Pliny documented a "spark" that fell from the sky, grew to the size of the moon, and then flew back upward. Around the world, rock art and oral histories dating back thousands of years depict unusual figures or objects descending from above, such as the 4,000-year-old Wandjina cave paintings in Australia and the 10,000-year-old cave paintings in Charama, India that exhibit beings with disproportionately large, bald, pear-shaped or bulbous heads with massive, dark, almond-shaped black eyes that lack visible whites, little to no external nose (often just flat nostrils or a small bump), no external earlobes (just small openings), and a thin, slit-like or scar-like mouth.

If that doesn’t sound familiar, then you must have been living most of your life out of range of modern communication systems–or under a rock. The beings depicted in the Australian and Indian cave painting are identical to the Greys of modern ET fame.

Problem is, the thousands and thousands of people who report and have reported UFOs and Greys have no evidence save for a long history of oral/visual sightings without physical evidence– and those who doubt them have no evidence to support their non-existence save for speculation and a modicum of reasoning that only exists in what is known, what is called epistemological humility—the idea that our current scientific tools, frameworks, and definitions of "evidence" might simply be inadequate for catching or understanding a specific phenomenon.

Or perhaps they are not “aliens” at all, perhaps they are the future “Us.” Way into the future “Us.” The evolution of “Us” in the very same way our earliest ancestors evolved into “Today Us.” How will we look a thousand years from now, ten thousand years from now, a hundred thousand years from now, a million years from now? Clearly not the same when considering that characteristics of living organisms generally disappear without use and become refined with more use. For example, we have the vestiges of a tail, the tailbone, but no tail that was crucial for balance in our earliest primate ancestors. However, over time, we became bipedal, which gives us balance and no need for a tail. On the refined side, the human larynx (voice box) dropped lower in the throat (as a result of bipedalism, soft food as a benefit of cooking) compared to other primates. This expanded the pharynx, creating a two-tube vocal tract capable of producing a vast range of vowel sounds allowing for the rapid, precise articulation of complex speech and a variety of languages.

Significant technological and environmental changes over long periods of time will change our physical as well as our mental stature. Why will we need to be relatively big and strong under the exponential pressure of artificial intelligence and robotics that will do everything for us, particularly physical work? Wouldn’t we eventually grow smaller in stature? It’s unlikely that jobs in the future will involve physical labor inasmuch as they will require mental labor in a world dependent on technology, unimaginable technology, technology that will accomplish feats far beyond current technology–like propulsion systems that allow spacecraft to jump into hyperspace for faster-than-light interstellar travel, anti-gravity technology that allows vehicles to hover or fly smoothly over Earth, teleporting (think Star Trek)—and time travel, which is theoretically possible. Would that mental labor cause our brains to grow larger and therefore our skulls? Would adverse climate change, a sustained nuclear winter, confine us to enclosed low-light environments and would that cause our eyes to grow larger and our skin to become pallid?

Would we eventually look like the Greys?

And why are they “reportedly” visiting Earth?

Perhaps for the same reason paleoanthropologists study our prehistoric ancestors so that we can better understand who we are today. Studying our origins isn't just about looking backward; it directly explains our current biology, behaviors, and vulnerabilities. Is it possible that these Greys are also paleoanthropologists who are coming back, here, to their past to better understand themselves? They don’t seem to be militant since there are no reports of them harming us to any significant degree. True, there have been reports of abductions but the abductees are always released relatively unharmed and report being “studied” in various ways. What is more, there have been cases of strange cattle mutilations that seem to have been done “surgically,” and no one knows who’s doing it. Of course, that doesn’t mean the Greys are doing it, but it doesn’t mean they’re not doing it, either.

There have also been a number of reports about UFOs visiting sensitive military and nuclear missile sites that have coincided with missile malfunctions: Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana — March 16, 1967; Loring Air Force Base, Maine, 1975; Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Michigan, 1975; Rendlesham Forest, England, 1980; Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, 1966–1968; and Los Alamos and other atomic research sites, 1948 onward. Although UFOs have been sighted in the other seven nuclear armed countries, reports of UFOs disrupting nuclear missile launch sites are thin and unclear. UFOs do not necessarily mean Greys. Nevertheless, UFO sightings around nuclear sites are compelling. What’s their motive? They haven’t done any damage but they have apparently shown that they can shut down and even control the sites.

(Keep in mind that we may be them and they may be us. The only difference is time.)

Is that to our/their advantage? Do they want to keep us/them from annihilating ourselves/themselves and the planet? Do they have experience with this? Have nuclear conflagrations changed our/their world to make us Grey?

No one can say one way or another.

It’s a Grey area.
